Amigos School Reviews

My daughter was recruited by a prestigious private school as she graduated the AMIGOS School and recently graduated college with outstanding grades.

I have two sons at Amigos, one in the fourth grade and one in kindergarten. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to send my children to a dual immersion bilingual school. As an applied linguist, I am familiar with the research that demonstrates the cognitive and socio-cultural benefits of early exposure to and immersion in a second language. As a parent, I have delighted in the sophisticated word analysis and word play that my sons engage in (Amigos students usually feature prominently in city-wide poetry contests). Most gratifying are the frequent glimpses I get of the cultural understanding and appreciation my young sons are developing at Amigos. The teachers and staff at Amigos foster an open, respectful, and supportive learning atmosphere. It's a great school!

Our daughter feels happy to go to school each day. The small class size and warmth of the teachers and administrators exudes love and stability. Amigos is a public, two-way immersion bilingual English-Spanish school. Half the children are native Spanish speakers, and half are native English speakers. My Anglo daughter speaks, reads and writes in Spanish as if she were a native speaker, and it is very strong part of her self-esteem. She also has a broader knowledge of the world around her - economics, politics and history. This program is more challenging than traditional schools but the payoff has been well worth it. I feel it has strengthened her knowledge and facility with her first language - English. The principal is an outstanding administrator. She garners the support and resources she needs so no child is left behind. Some grades are also getting Chinese instruction on a part-time basis.
